CodeGuard does far more than just back up websites, it can back up databases, too. Once you’ve configured CodeGuard to back up your site via SFTP, CodeGuard backs up your SQL database in just a few steps, too.
In this article we’ll look at how to back up your MySQL database using CodeGuard.
Before getting started, make sure you have your CodeGuard account active, you have access to your dashboard and you have already backed up your website files. Additionally, make sure that your web hosting service allows remote database access.
In the CodeGuard dashboard, next to your website, click the gear icon and select “Add Database.”
Test Your Connection
The next page will prompt you to test your connection. Just enter your database hostname (typically the IP address for your website) and click “Test Connection”. CodeGuard will test to see if it’s allowed to connect directly to your database. If not, you’ll need to whitelist CodeGuard’s IP addresses.
The method to whitelist IP addresses varies by web hosting provider and hosting platform.
If you have a cPanel web hosting control panel for your web hosting account, you can whitelist the CodeGuard IP addresses yourself using this method. Other control panels should also have something similar.
If you cannot figure out how to whitelist the IP addresses yourself, please contact your web hosting provider and ask them to whitelist the following IP addresses for you:
- codeguard.com – US region:
- de.codeguard.com – Germany region:
- uk.codeguard.com – United Kingdom region:
- fr.codeguard.com – France region:
Most site owners will choose to use the default option, “Direct MySQL”. Next, you’ll need to indicate the settings for your MySQL database connection.
Tip: if you’re not sure what your MySQL username and password are, you can find them in your website configuration file. For example, if you’re using WordPress, your configuration file is wp-config.php. Afterwards, click Next Step.
Finally, select which database(s) you want to backup and click “Add Databases”.
Congratulations, your database will now be backed up with the frequency of your choosing.
